會議宗旨
道教研究長期以來受到特定議題的影響，其中最常被激烈討論的是道教與地方宗教之間的關係。研究早期道教形式（例如天師道）的史學家強調道教與地方宗教間的對立關係，以及道教對獻祭與附身的排斥。然而，學者們也指出，近世以來，道教與地方宗教有逐漸融合的傾向，通常是地方神祗進入道教的神殿，而道士也被請來經營地方寺廟。即便如此，道教與地方宗教間至今仍存在著張力與對立。
我們要如何解釋這種複雜的互動模式呢？有些學者（例如丁荷生），強調道教提供地方宗教「科儀架構」的整體作用；有些學者則堅持認為，道教對地方宗教的影響不能只從表面來理解，也不能當作是唯一的主張。學者對道士到地方寺廟進行儀式到底是怎麼一回事眾說紛紜。同樣的，對地方神祗在通俗文學與表演藝術中被刻畫為道教諸神的一份子，亦或是不受約束的地方英雄？也持不同的態度。另一個相關的議題是法師的地方傳統。法師處理的通常是地方神祇，而學者對他們在道教中的地位有不同的理解。
本會議旨在評估並釐清現存各種學術觀點與立場，以便進行更具反思性與深入分析的辯論。希望能解開學術論述中纏繞在主位∕
客位範疇的環節，進而發展出讓持不同立場學者可以共同使用的論述詞彙及明確的參數。
為了實現會議目標，主辦單位希望邀請歷史與民族學領域的專家學者來一起探討問題。一系列活動自臺灣著名的道教研究學者李豐楙教授在11
月

日演講開始，接下來兩天將由來自德國、法國、臺灣、日本、美國、英國，以及香港等地學者，發表
13
篇論文，透過研究成果發表與學術詳細討論。期盼每篇論文都能陳述其對道教與地方宗教的定義，並勾勒出可以思考兩者關係的分析架構。會議發表將以英文或中文進行（請參見議程）。
會議期間還將由臺灣國家圖書館策劃「天之道:
道教與地方宗教主題文獻展」，展出最近臺灣關於道教和地方宗教的研究出版品，以及各類道教文獻版本，精彩可期。
