Call for Applications: 2027 Research Grant for Foreign Scholars in Chinese Studies

To promote international research and scholarly exchange in Chinese Studies, and to encourage foreign scholars to conduct research in Taiwan, the Center for Chinese Studies (CCS), National Central Library, sincerely invites applications from scholars worldwide for the Research Grant for Foreign Scholars in Chinese Studies.

🔹 Eligibility

Applicants must be foreign scholars affiliated with universities or academic institutions outside Taiwan, including:

  • Professors

  • Associate Professors

  • Assistant Professors (including Postdoctoral Researchers)

  • Doctoral Candidates

  • Researchers

🔹 Grant Support

  • Round-trip economy-class airfare (from the applicant’s place of residence to Taipei)

  • Monthly research stipend:

    • Professors: NT$60,000 per month

    • Associate Professors: NT$50,000 per month (to be increased to NT$60,000 starting in 2027)

    • Assistant Professors (including postdoctoral researchers): NT$40,000 per month (to be increased to NT$50,000 starting in 2027)

    • Doctoral Candidates: NT$40,000 per month (to be increased to NT$50,000 starting in 2027)

The final grant amount is subject to the approval of the Center for Chinese Studies.

  • Access to a research carrel

🔹 Duration

From 1 to 12 months.
The research period must fall within a single calendar year and may not extend across years.

Applicants wishing to conduct research in Taiwan in 2027 should submit their applications by May 31, 2026, via the following website:

The Center for Chinese Studies also administers the Taiwan Fellowship (Ministry of Foreign Affairs):

For those planning research in Taiwan in 2027, the application period for the Taiwan Fellowship is May 1 to June 30, 2026.

Applicants may apply for both programs; however, if awarded both, the grant periods may not overlap.
