A Ceremony for Professor Kuan-chung Huang Book Donation at National Central Library  

    On November 30th, the National Central Library held a ceremony for Professor Kuan-chung Huang Book Donation.

Professor Huang, an internationally renowned scholar of Song history, has served as the director of the Institute of History and Philology, Academia Sinica, the director of the National Central Library, the vice president of National Chung Hsing University, and a Chair Professor of department of Medical Humanities and Social Sciences at Chang Gung University's College of Medicine.

    Since his undergraduate years, Professor Huang has dedicated himself to the study of Song history. Over the past half-century, his research has spanned Chinese politics, military affairs, society, and culture, and his numerous publications have earned him great respect in academic circles. After retiring, he was appointed as Chair Professor of department of Medical Humanities and Social Sciences at Chang Gung University, where he devoted a decade to promoting medical humanities education. Professor Huang is a historian with both a strong sense of practicality and a cross-disciplinary perspective.

    Professor Huang has actively promoted various library initiatives and encouraged other sinologists to donate their collections to the library. In December 2019, he was the first to donate his teaching materials and notes at Chang Gung University, which document the significant developments in medical humanities education in Taiwan over the past decade. Additionally, Professor Huang has facilitated donations from other renowned Song history scholars, such as Professors Wang The-Yi and Liang Ken-Yao of National Taiwan University. This latest donation from Professor Huang includes over a thousand volumes, focusing on Chinese history, particularly Song history, and encompassing rare sinological works from Japan, Europe, the Americas, and mainland China.
