“Taiwan Lectures on Chinese Studies” invites Professor Lin Ho-Yi to deliver a lecture at Seoul National University  

On June 28, 2019, Seoul National University in cooperation with the Center for Chinese Studies at the National Central Library hosted the third session of “Taiwan Lectures on Chinese Studies.” Lin Ho-Yi, professor at the Department of Drama and Theatre, National Taiwan University, was invited to present “The Influence of New Varieties of Fiction on Literary Chuanqi Drama in Late Ming and Early Qing Dynasty.” The lecture was hosted by Lee Chang-Sook, head of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Seoul National University. Daniel D. W. Tang, representative of the Taipei Mission in Korea, and Weng Jing-Yi, leader of the Mission’s Education Group, both attended and expressed the government’s support for international academic exchange.

Seoul National University is one of South Korea’s most renowned academic institutions and has a rich tradition in Chinese studies. This session of “Taiwan Lectures on Chinese Studies” is the first academic activity put on by the Library and the University after agreeing to work in cooperation concerning the “Chinese Studies Information and Service Center” in 2016. The lecture attracted numerous scholars and graduate students in the fields of theatre and Chinese studies who were eager to interact and participate in exchange from several universities, such as Yonsei University, Sogang University, Inha University, Sookmyung Women's University, Ewha Womans University, Hansung University, and others. The Center was also present to provide related information on the “Research Grant for Foreign Scholars in Chinese Studies” and the “MOFA Taiwan Scholarship” to encourage outstanding foreign students to apply and study abroad in Taiwan, furthering the ability of research being conducted in Taiwan.
