Visiting Foreign Scholars End of Year Get-Together

At midday on Friday, January 24, the Center for Chinese Studies held an end of year get-together for visiting foreign scholars. Foreign scholars receiving the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Taiwan Fellowship were invited to spend Chinese New Year’s eve together, giving them a chance to take time out of their research to experience Taiwan’s traditional festival celebrations. 34 visiting overseas scholars and their families attended from the U.S.A, Canada, Chile, France, Germany, Ireland, Belgium, Poland, Spain, the Czech Republic, Korea, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, and Nigeria.

Before the festivities began, NCL Director-General Tseng Shu-hsien and deputy director of MOFA’s Research and Planning Committee Vincent Liu welcomed the guests, wishing them and their families a Happy Chinese New Year. To encourage exchange and sharing of their research in Taiwan, during the get-together, each of the scholars introduced themselves to the guests. The scholars conversed animatedly, which created a warm and lively atmosphere, making this event so carefully put together by the Center a very memorable one.
