講 題Ⅰ:文化、風格與全球化——中國與臺灣對西方裝飾的接受

摘要Ⅰ:
裝飾藝術遍及在全世界的文化傳統中,在中國藝術裡尤為顯著,可以被視為文化的基本元素。接續我所出版有關裝飾的社會、象徵、與形式問題的專書和文章,此次的演講則是2008年我在漢學研究中心獎助下的研究成果。我的研究計畫,是以分析中國藝術中的一些主題為例,對裝飾藝術裡的問題更加深入探究。藉由分析纏枝紋與獅子圖像,使我的研究工作獲致不錯的成果。這樣的關注是延續我在日本對這兩項主題的研究。由於在亞洲其影響十分深遠,因此在中國文化領域中值得投入研究。
裝飾可以從全球化的角度思考,例如自西方文化傳入的纏枝紋(纏枝紋在亞洲較不為人知,獅子原本亦不存在)與獅子圖像,是從印度、中亞隨佛教透過絲路,以及宗教轉遞的文化活動傳入。在亞洲,它們由特別的文化價值予以重譯,改變原本在希臘與羅馬文化中的涵意。在中國甚至臺灣,這樣的例子顯得特別有趣,是因為位居遠東的地理位置,得以歸結此美學發展的歷程。全球化問題,亦可視為介於國際影響、國家、地方文化、與傳統間的糾結。事實上,中國在新石器時代後,已發展出漩渦紋(雷紋,近似希臘回紋)與神話動物等特別的表現。
臺北及臺灣等地博物館(特別是國立故宮博物院中)的收藏,以及中國建築和裝飾藝術的歷史,提供我研究所需的材料。圖案被運用在廣泛的材質上,包括陶瓷、服飾(尤其是絲質刺繡),及木材與石頭上的雕刻。例如,纏枝紋不但繪於敦煌的石窟壁畫,也出現在18及19世紀的清代漆器上。這樣形式與材質的轉變是如何達成的?並且,纏枝紋是否如同出現在羅馬時代奧古斯都的石棺上一般,具有政治與宗教權力的象徵呢?這些題材在裝飾藝術和建築上的涵意是否一致?中古晚期與現代中國文化如何吸收來自外部與遠古兩方面的傳統?觀察此變化,纏枝紋與獅子圖像的質變與轉換,為理解古代跨文化的交流,以及中國藝術的獨特層面,均提供了更佳的途徑。

AbstractⅠ:
Ornament is present everywhere in the world heritage and especially in the Chinese art, where it could be considered as an essential element of the culture. Following books and articles I have published on the social, symbolic and stylistic aspects of the ornament, this lecture is the result of a study achieved in 2008 and supported by a grant kindly provided by the Center for Chinese Studies. The aim of the research project I have conducted was to deepen the question of ornament by analyzing the case of some motives in Chinese Art. I achieve this more specific work through the analyse of the vine-scroll and of the lion. Such concern constitutes the following step of a previous research project I have conducted in Japan on both of the figures. It appeared necessary to investigate the area of the Chinese culture in this matter because of its great influence in Asia.
Ornaments should be considered in the perspective of globalism: some patterns as the vine-scroll and the lion (vine is not well-know in Asia and the lion does not exist there) were imported from the western culture particularly through the Silk Road and the great movement of cultural religious exchanges coming from India and Central Asia along with Buddhism. In Asia, they were reinterpreted through specific cultural values which upset their original significance from Greece and Rome. The case of China and even of Taiwan is particularly interesting because of their geographical position on the Far East, which constitutes one of the final steps in the process of an aesthetical evolution. The question of globalism is also to be considered as a struggle between international influences and national and local customs and heritage. In fact, since the Neolithic period, China has developed a specific evolution of the spiral (lei wen, close to the Greek fret) and of fantastic creatures.
The collections of the Museums in Taipei and Taiwan (especially those of the National Palace Museum) and the history of Chinese architecture and decorative arts constituted the essential material I worked with. The uses of the patterns encompass a wide range of material, including ceramics, costumes (particularly the silk embroideries), and applied sculpture on wood or stone. For example, vine-scrolls were painted on frescoes in Dunhuang grottoes but also with lacquer on Qin dynasty objects in the 18th and 19th centuries. How do such adaptations to styles and techniques achieved? In addition, does the vine scroll an expression of political and religious power in the same way as like the sarcophagus of Augustus in the Roman civilization? Do our motives have the same significance in decorative arts and in architecture? How does the late medieval and modern Chinese culture assimilate a double heritage coming from outside and from its own immemorial past? Observing the changes, the mutations and the transformations of the vine-scroll and of the lion could be a way to understand better not only cross-cultural exchanges in the past but also a specific aspect of Chinese art.

劉勰《文心雕龍》的〈序志〉篇頗受現代研究者關注;在現今不少出版品中,對〈序志〉的討論,往往優先於其他篇目,將其視為理解全書的關鍵;多數的研究均藉劉勰〈序志〉中進一步對各篇的描述來掌握《文心雕龍》的架構;研究者編寫劉勰的傳記時,也置其於評論的傳統中,當作自傳體看待,研究多自此開展延續。該篇的重要性可見於王更生教授近期文章的敘述:「儘管〈序志〉是該書的最後一篇,但卻是全書最重要的一篇,如果研究者想要瞭解《文心雕龍》的脈絡,〈序志〉不但是必讀,還必須最先讀起」。
本討論會便從王教授的說明談起,就〈序志〉在《文心雕龍》中複雜的處境,與其所屬文本之外的評論傳統,提出一系列的問題。這些問題的最佳解答是指出〈序志〉的雙重性質,如此使〈序志〉既位居全書中心又處於邊緣,既屬於文本又處於其外,屬於《文心雕龍》或不包含其中,屬於序文體又不其然,同時規範又拆解了《文心雕龍》(同時也被《文心雕龍》規範與拆解)。並且,這些矛盾性可說明傳統文學與《文心雕龍》間的交疊關係,有助於面對《文心雕龍》本身具有的(非)普通性質。

The Xuzhi chapter in Liu Xie’s Wen xin diao long (WXDL) is often privileged by modern researchers; many modern editions discuss it before approaching any other sections of the WXDL, treating it as a key to the understanding of the whole; numerous studies identify the structural patterns of the WXDL according to the divisions advanced by Liu Xie in the Xuzhi; scholars working on Liu Xie’s biography, position in the critical tradition, contribution to the autobiographical genre, etc. also often proceed for here. The essential role of the chapter is summed up by Professor Wang Gengsheng in a recent article like this: “[E]ven if the Xuzhi chapter is the last chapter of the text, it is, however, the most important chapter in the whole book. If scholars want to know the contents of the WXDL, they will have to read the Xuzhi chapter, and they will have to read it first”.
This seminar will start from Professor Wang’s statement and raise a series of questions regarding the complex status and position of the Xuzhi chapter within the WXDL and the metatextual tradition it belongs to. These questions will shown to be best answered by acknowledging the existence of inherent dualities that make the Xuzhi chapter both marginal and central, both text and metatext, both within the WXDL and without the WXDL, both within and without the xuwen genre, both ordering and dis-ordering the WXDL (and both being ordered and dis-ordered by it), etc. Also, a number of ambiguities will be shown to (playfully) attempt to articulate a series of superpositions between wen and WXDL, which may point out a way of confronting the (non)-generic status of the WXDL itself.

劉廣定教授,美國普渡大學博士,原任教於臺灣大學化學系,專長為科學史、永續化學教育,現為臺灣大學名譽教授。

民國77年榮獲教育部理科學術獎,83年榮獲中國化學會學術獎章,84年榮獲中山學術獎(科學史)。
重要著作有:《大師的零玉 : 陳寅恪、胡適和林語堂的一些瑰寶遺珍》、《古代中國的科學技術》、《臺灣肖楠材部萃取成份的硏究》、《中國科學史論集》、《化外談紅》、《化學結構與溶離反應活性之硏究》、《化學與日常生活》。

中華科技史學會簡介:

●《漢學研究》「唐宋的訊息傳遞與政令運行」專輯徵稿Chinese Studies Special Issue Welcomes Contributions
《漢學研究》計劃於2009年6月出版「唐宋的訊息傳遞與政令運行」專輯,由中央研究院歷史語言研究所研究員黃寬重教授籌劃主編。本次專輯以唐宋時期為範疇,希望從政治、軍事、外交、制度等層面,討論訊息傳遞的管道、規程、功能及其反映於上情下達、官民溝通等政令運作的實況與效果。論文以中、英文撰寫皆可,篇幅、體例悉依本刊「稿約」和「寫作格式」。

The June 2009 issue of Chinese Studies will be a special issue on “Information Transmission and Policy Enforcement during the Tang and Song Dynasties” headed by Professor Kuan-chung Huang, a research fellow in the Institute of History and Philology at Academia Sinica. This issue will focus on the Tang and Song dynasties, with discussion centered on the various channels, regulations, and effects tied to the transmission of information related to politics, military affairs, diplomacy, and/or government systems and institutions. Specifically, understanding the enforcement and effects of government decrees, or the means by which emperors and officials made their wishes known and the communication methods between officials and the common people is the main goal of this issue. Papers can be written in either Chinese or English. The length and style should conform to Chinese Studies’ “Guide for Submission” and “Style Sheet.”
The deadline for submissions for this issue is October 31, 2008.

1. Chinese Studies is an international journal with a focus on Chinese literature, history, and philosophy. Scholars from both Taiwan and abroad are welcome to submit papers.
2. Beginning with Volume 26 (2008) Chinese Studies will become a quarterly publication, with issues in March, June, September, and December. Its content consists of articles, issues, and book reviews. Submitted papers are subject to approval by our panel of scholars.
3. Papers in English and Chinese are accepted for consideration. Papers and reviews in English are especially welcome. Papers in English should not exceed 30 pages and reviews should not exceed 8 pages in length. Papers in Chinese should not exceed 25,000 characters and reviews should not exceed 6,000 characters.
