Abstract:

This research explores Taiwan's "New Southbound Policy" (NSBP) as proclaimed by the newly elected President Tsai Ing-wen, and its implications for Thailand. It posits that the NSBP has been designed primarily to help boost Taiwanese economy, while simultaneously reducing economic reliance on China, which could help to strengthen Taiwan's "independence" option in the long run; and that the ASEAN members toward the south are among the target countries.
