Abstract：Taiwan’s quest for international space: constraints and possibilities
This paper explores two things: one, the implications of Taiwan’s quest for international space for its foreign-policy choices; two, the implications of such a quest for the study of International Relations. The paper examines the constraints on Taiwan’s quest: it suggests that the constraints come in the main from China putting political pressure on Taiwan as well as on other actors in world affairs; they also come in relatively smaller measures from other actors in the international community as well as from the country’s own domestic reservations. The paper focuses on Taiwan’s participation in intergovernmental organizations and assesses the possibilities of the country’s increasing involvement in the activities of these organizations. The paper concludes with a discussion on what we can learn from Taiwan’s experience in this quest in order to inform or even revise our understanding of international relations.
講題摘要：爭取國際空間：臺灣外交關係的局限與契機
本次討論會主要探討兩件事：一、 臺灣對國際空間的爭取，影響其外交政策的選擇；二、這個爭取對國際關係的研究具有何種意義。此處審視了臺灣取得國際空間的種種局限：主要來自中國在國際事務上對臺灣施加政治壓力，另一個相對較小的限制則是來自其他國際事務及臺灣的內部爭議。我的焦點放在臺灣參與跨政府組織的情況，以及評估在這些組織活動中，臺灣加入的可能性。這篇報告探討我們能否從臺灣尋求國際空間的經驗中，獲得或修正我們對國際關係的認識。

●2010年獎助外籍學人錄取名單揭曉
漢學研究中心2010年「外籍學人來臺研究漢學獎助」錄取名單已告確定。此次申請獎助者共計95人，審查會議於 2009年8月21日下午召開，由顧敏館長主持，參加審查之學者專家共計6人。經過熱烈討論與審慎評選，最後決定錄取11名，另備取10名。茲將錄取學人之研究主題分述如下：
1. Roel Sterckx（胡司德）： In the Fields of Shennong: A Cultural Ecology of Early and Early Medieval China （在神農的田園──中國上古與中古時期之文化生態）。
2. James Bonk（博哲銘）： Military Leadership in the Qing Empire, 1796 to 1845.
3. Natalia Andrea Lizama Poblete：Public Diplomacy as a Method to Improve the Insertion of Taiwan in Latin America and Attain a Greater Rapprochement to Chile.

●《漢學研究》「重寫文學史──中國文學史新論」專輯徵稿啟事
《漢學研究》（季刊）計劃於2011年6月出版「重寫文學史──中國文學史新論」專輯，由中央研究院中國文哲研究所研究員王璦玲教授籌劃主編。論文以中、英文撰寫皆可，中文稿以不超過二萬五千字，英文稿以30頁以內為原則，體例請依照本刊「稿約」和「寫作格式」。專輯內容說明如下：
二十世紀後半期的文學批評對於「文學史」（literary history）的概念，以及文學史的寫作，在定義、功能與內涵上，皆發生了前所未有的變化。史學觀念的進步與「文學批評」方法上的趨於嚴格化，多少顛覆了文學史作為「解釋文學現象所以發生」的那一層意義。文學史的寫作，在不斷匯入環繞於有關「文學文本」、「文學作為」與「文學審美」的種種研究後，持續更新的要求，促使它完全擺落了先前所受於歷史主義影響的束縛，成為立基於批判性與詮釋性兼具之文學史學史（literary historiography）的一種寫作，從而在今日的文學學科中依然佔有重要的地位，並持續發揮著重要的作用。然而到了八十年代初，由於新歷史主義（New Historicism）的崛起，文學史寫作之方法與策略，又有了一番更新。依新歷史主義者的看法，歷史的敘述，並不等同於歷史的事件本身，任何一種歷史的呈現，只能是一種歷史的敘事（historical narrative）或撰述，或後設歷史（meta-history）的衍繹，其科學性與客觀性皆可商榷。因為撰史的背後，發揮主宰作用的，其實是一種強勢話語的霸權與權力的運作機制。歷史既然如此，更不用說雜入更多不確定之審美藝術特徵的文學史了。然而即使在經歷了這樣嚴峻的歷史敘述學的挑戰之後，文學研究的最終結局，仍必須是在某一時間點，在某一系列的陳述中，交織於一種歷史性敘述之中，將之視為歷史。祇是這個領域，已經不是以往那個有著濃厚菁英氣息的封閉的、侷限的領域，而成了一個開放的、廣闊的跨學科與跨文化的領域。在這個廣闊的天地裡，文學研究並沒有銷亡，而是被置於一個更加複雜的文化語境中來考察。這也許就是新的文學史學史，對於整個文學批評理論所產生的新的挑戰。
以上文學史論述的最新趨勢，對於近年來中國文學史研究所可能產生的影響與啟導作用，有其關鍵性與時代性之意義，頗值得探討。本刊因而擬針對中國文學史研究特闢一「重寫文學史──中國文學史新論」專輯，其中可以開發的新議題如下：

三、 文學論爭與文學發展
四、 文學發展之語境與思潮
五、 空間書寫與文化場域

Chinese Studies Seeks Contributions for Special Issue on “The Rewriting of Chinese Literary History”
The June 2011 issue of Chinese Studies will be a special issue addressing the rewriting of Chinese literary history. Professor Ayling Wang, a research fellow at the Institute of Chinese Literature and Philosophy at Academia Sinica, will function as chief editor of the issue. Submission can be in either Chinese or English, with a limit of 25,000 characters for Chinese papers and 30 pages for English papers. Format and style should conform to the Style Guide listed in each issue of Chinese Studies.
In the latter half of the 20th century, an unprecedented change took place with regards to the concept of literary history, as well as its writing, definition, purpose, and content within the field of literary criticism. Advanced views in historiography melded with literary criticism techniques, providing a more rigid view of literary history that went beyond traditional historicism. In the 1980s, the rise of New Historicism changed the methods and strategies used in the composition of literary history. Old histories were seen as historical narratives, which are not the same as the historical events themselves. As such, the objectiveness of such histories were subject to doubt.
These and other new developments in literary historical studies play a role in future research and academic influence. This issue plans to address such trends and developments in detail. Possible topics for research could include: the formation, dissemination, and transformation of literary canon; literary works and the culture of the literati; literary debates and developments; context and thought in literary developments; writing of space and cultural fields; the sensory world of Chinese literature; methodologies in writing literary histories; the acceptance and dissemination of literary works; collective consciousness and the writing of memory, literary production and material culture, overseas Chinese texts and cultural exchange; etc.
Note: Submissions must be received by September 30, 2010.

一、漢學研究中心編印之《漢學研究》為一以中國文史哲研究為主體之國際性學報，園地公開，歡迎海內外學者投稿。
二、本刊自第26卷（2008年）起由半年刊更改為季刊，每年3、6、9、12 月出版。內容包括︰專論、問題與討論、書評等。所有稿件經審查通過後始予刊登。

Information for Contributors to Chinese Studies
1. Chinese Studies is an international journal with a focus on Chinese literature, history, and philosophy. Scholars from both Taiwan and abroad are welcome to submit papers.
2. Beginning with Volume 26 (2008) Chinese Studies will become a quarterly publication, with issues in March, June, September, and December. Its content consists of articles, issues, and book reviews. Submitted papers are subject to approval by our panel of scholars.
3. Papers in English and Chinese are accepted for consideration. Papers and reviews in English are especially welcome. Papers in English should not exceed 30 pages and reviews should not exceed 8 pages in length. Papers in Chinese should not exceed 25,000 characters and reviews should not exceed 6,000 characters.
